Pastoral Support

In our school, the Form Tutor has an important role.  It is his or her responsibility to get to know each member of the form as an individual and to make each student’s welfare his/her special concern.  It is hoped that the relationship between students and Form Tutors will develop into one of mutual respect and regard.  We have a dedicated team of Year 7 Form Tutors, who are very experienced in helping students make the transition from Primary School and helping students settle in.   

Parents should encourage students to seek the Form Tutor’s advice and help, where required.  It is hoped that parents will work and meet with Form Tutors to discuss students’ welfare and progress.   

Form Tutors are the initial point of contact for parents if they have a question or concern regarding school or their son and can be contacted by emailing the school office, marking the email for their attention. 

Form Tutors are the first point of contact for parents. Additionally, to help in the smooth running of our school and to take an overview of academic achievement, there is a Director of Study for each year group.  Parents work with Directors of Study and Form Tutors with all matters relating to academic, pastoral and student well-being.   

Mrs Craig, the Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for the Lower School, has overall responsibility for discipline and welfare and works in conjunction with Mr Keeling-Jones who is the Director of Study for Year 7. 

The five Houses are:  

• Broughton – Mayor of Maidstone and signatory of the death warrant of King Charles I 
• Fisher – The Archbishop who led the Dedication Service at the official opening of the school on this site 
• Hazlitt – The playwright, essayist and social commentator 
• Sadler – An old boy who went on to play for Manchester United and England  
• Wilberforce – Politician who was influential in abolishing the Slave Trade and has family contacts with East Farleigh 

The House system is a vehicle to encourage competition – not only on the sports fields but also in Art, Music, Poetry and Photography and obviously academically. The House system also allows more opportunities for leadership at all levels – it has encouraged a more vertical structure, with older students supporting those lower down the school.    

Your tie stripe colour will depend on which house you are placed in.  Houses are allocated at random, unless you have an older brother or sister in the school, in which case we try to allocate you to the same house.  It is helpful if parents are able to indicate any family house ties on the information form so that we are able to ensure that this happens.
